These are always the best stories. Two students (Destin Daniel Cretton and Lowell Frank) from San Diego State University made a documentary entitled “DRAKMAR: A VASSAL’S JOURNEY”. The film was made for only $200 (and a lot of time spent) and the finished product won rave reviews when they put it to the test of the festival circuit. The documentary has won a number of awards including the prestigious Best Documentary Award at the 2006 Comic-Con Independent International Film Festival.

Director Bennett Miller, of ‘Capote’ fame, took notice in the film and brought to the attention of HBO execs. The film portrays a young student’s involvement in medieval reenactments and the search for his father. The film will air on HBO Family East 6/17 (Father’s Day) at 5:45pm and proves that no matter how small the budget a good film can be made with the right ingredients.
