200px-book_of_secrets_post.jpgOn Friday alone “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” opened at 3,832 theaters and took in $16.6 million, making the director’s, Jon Turteltaub, highest score on a Friday opening.

Easily “Secrets” will keep the lead through the long weekend. “I am Legend” came second while “Alvin and the Chipmunks” followed in third.

A new film took fourth place in the box office –“Sweeney Todd” at only 1,249 theaters. Another newbie comes in fifth, which is “Charlie Wilson’s War.” Yet another new film arrives holding the sixth spot “P.S. I Love You.”
