The Rich Smell Of DOOM
First, let me say that I resent the hell out of Barbara Walters, that backstabbing cunt.
Next, let me say that I'm cool with the impending end of Screenhead. Not that The End really needs people to be cool with it, it rolls right on anyway, but some of you wonder how it feels. It feels fine. Personally, I'm surprised that the site is still here in the first place. I found out real fast that I had pretty much zero interest in linking to... well, whatever the fuck it was I supposedly meant to be linking to --burn victim dwarfs with an irate mongoose shoved on their nuts or something-- and instead went mostly for smaller creative types doing their thing. I never wielded too much internet heat to swing around, but evidently I did have a few influential readers, and it was enough for some of you to write in and thank us for the attention. You said it made a difference, helped you get a leg up that you wouldn't have gotten otherwise, and I like that. The fact that Gawker let this go on for twenty-two months with the low ratings I pulled in while doing it says a lot about their general approach to content: it's pretty ballsy to be The Name Brand Blog Hub on the ever-competitive interweb and not mind loss-leading a little with some twit named after cock snot who tends to link to a chalk artist in Madrid like it means something.
Gawker.inc never approved the five-digit expense account items from Columbia that I'd send in twice a month, they never paid for that 15 year old research assistant from Russia I had my eye on (stay strong Tatiana, I'll rustle up the cash somehow), they never changed that logo head thing which basically all but dares people to read this site... but they never hassled me for not being College Humor either. Kudos to `em.
Screenhead is up for sale. Sold or not, I'm leaving at the end of July. Before I go I'll try to find a few more interesting things and come up with a few one-liners for other sites to steal without linking back. Not that I'm bitter.
Thanks for reading, enjoy the new thing Gawker will do, and sing along with me now a little Kitten Doom one time:
( I don't really think Barbara Walters is a cunt, you know. I was making fun of Star Jones. Some of you didn't get that because watching The View amounts to torture in some civilized nations. )

Man, that does suck. I liked this site too. What other blog are you going to work on? Or is this it for blogs?

Where am I to find these kind of links now? I'm very sorry to hear that the end is nigh. Good luck in your future.

This makes me a sad panda! I adore Screenhead.

Well thank you. I'm very bored of this sort of blogging, whatever I do next will go more along the lines of actually creating things rather than pointing to them. I never really intended to do the site for this long, perversely the shitty ratings made me want to keep doing it. If it had been a hit, I'd have left some time ago.

Best to you!

No, no, please don't go, Mr. Resin! We all love you! It's that geek with the big eyes that drives everyone away! Shoot him! Poison him! Push him out the window (11th floor or above)!
But you, o delightful dongster, please stay!
Wait a minute... Lore Sjöberg's started doing the same thing at Wired... Nevermind.
Oh, and would you autograph my Tinkerbell Hilton book? (I keed because I love... yours and the equally cancelled Sploid are the only Gawker sites I've bookmarked. So there.)

You bought that book?
I'm so sorry.

No effin' way. Screenhead is the only gawkerfamily blog that I have in my feedreader. Me loves you long time.

Oh man -- this site is the highlight of my day. Screw BoingBoing. I hear you re: create things rather than point to them. But I actually found the promo copy you write to be inspirational. I'm gonna miss the stuff you post here, and I appreciate all the traffic you did send me at www.andiamnotlyingforreal.blogspot.com
Thanks for all the fun,
Jeff
