adHACKS.com is Blue Ant’s goof on stock photography sites, offering up chunks of souless interchangeable ad copy eyeglaze such as
“Now my husband and I can do all the things we want, no matter what time of the month or phase of the moon, whether we’re relaxing at home or touring a Norwegian fjord. With Placebocor®, we’ve got a new perspective on love—and life! Ask your doctor if Placebocor® from
Acme | Praetor Labs is right for you….”
It’s still developing, but you can already buy adHACKS.com branded stuff. Will you buy it ironically or sincerely? They should offer a check box.

Designer Phil Nutley’s challenge to nine designers from nine different cites : design collapsible furniture that folds up neatly into a standard large FedEx box to be displayed at the 2004 International Contemporary Furniture Fair. All projects had to come in at no more than $200.
Very cool work ensues. Watch a great QuickTime video here.

Unguarded Moments is Pete Souza’s collection from the last five-and-a-half years of Ronald Reagan’s presidency, for which he was “one of the Gipper’s personal photographers.”
Great shots, some unexpectedly hilarious, with the occasional audio explanation. Pretty entertaining no matter what you think of Reagan or his presidency.

After asking for some tips on the No más! post, we got some pretty knowledgeable responses : turns out we were being exposed to the “Naco” style of filmmaking, an irony-laden approach dealing with Mexican late 70s / early 80s kitsch culture. Reader Jose illustrates our experience with “Silverio and his colleagues in Mexico City are involved in an ‘art movement’ that digs up the kitsch of 1970s and 1980s Mexico. Imagine looking at a clip of a Mr. Show skit based on ‘American Movie: The Making of Northwestern’ and then attempting to figure out American culture via that Mr. Show skit.”
Ah. Knowing this and getting in on the joke a little makes what was a merely odd clip much more interesting.
Much thanks to Jose and to Jason, and to Ben for pointing it out to us in the first place.

Detailed instructions on how to construct and then fly “the DC-3 of paper airplanes.”
We don’t know what the hell that means precisely, but the plane itself looks pretty cool.

Online superhero fantasy City Of Heroes allows its players to freak out the evil element of Paragon City as the customized caped wonder of their own choosing. Recently the community of players had a costume contest, and the results are here in this photo gallery. Shown here are the heroes the people were aiming for, and what they ended up with. Occasionally upsetting, mostly pretty great.

We’d like to declare our deep and very true love for The Pink Haired Avenger Who Eats Blu Fla-Vor-Ice or whatever she is.

“It gradually came to my attention that there are a lot more superheroes out there than we know about… -And a good number of them are operating in my local area.”
News inspired superhero doodles so urgent that they take place on the news itself. Speaking as petty criminals, we’re pretty sure we’d behave ourselves around Knifeman.

Megan Reardon’s Hallowig- a self-knitted Lego minifigure head/upsetting plastic people from those old Duracell commercials sort of a wig/hat, in hot pink. We think she could make a mint selling them, instead Megan offers up the source code.

The Box Doodle Project is an on-going gallery of some great impromptu art based or preformed on packing material.
“The rules are quite simple: rearrange a box to make any kind of figure or object. Make the most of least.”
Great work, and arranged in a well designed website with an inviting format.

We realize this Bible lovingly rendered in Lego has been kicking around the net for a good long while, but it’s either grown since we’ve seen it last, or it’s magically gotten funnier, becasue we found ourselves highly amused. If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a treat.
Turns out Yahweh is a bit of neat freak.
