We are a nation of finks

Looking for Gus Van Sant's short flim of William S. Burroughs doing his Thanksgiving Day Prayer rant, we see WFMU's Beware Of The Blog got there first.
"Sraight from Blame-America-First World Headquarters to your hard drive, here's a Thanksgiving Day prayer from William S. Burroughs, from a video directed by Gus Van Sant."
We say Beware Of The Blog misses the point in their glib dismissal here. Blame America first? Fuck yeah! William Burroughs' mid-80s rant is the same as any other bit of dissatisfaction with America: it is the spark which gets kings in line, makes slavery end, gets women the vote, keeps men in uniform from getting away with their enviable petty abuses of power. America is still a failure in the way it treats a lot of itself, and while it remains a failure, you have to whine about it to get anything done, and this is one of the more amusing whines. Without this sort of attitude, we'd all be, like, Canadian or something. You don't really want to put gravy on french fires and give a tremendous shit about hockey, do you? Of course you don't. So, we link here to William S. Burroughs doing his Thanksgiving day bitch about the dreary failings of our culture, and if you're new to it we hope you like it.
