That “bullet time” effect seen in the original Matrix was achieved by a circle of cameras that all fire around their subject at a preset time, resulting in a bunch of images that, when knitted together in film, give that odd 3D effect of frozen time, as the perspective changes from image to image feels like motion but in fact all the images describe the same instance in time.
The PIPs Lab site applies this technique to graffiti style tags written in a dark space with a flashlight; the end result makes light seem solid. There are 11 examples on the site to watch. In Flash.
