The mantis

One fine day a praying mantis busted into Yay Hooray! forum member Health's house, and laid eggs on his monitor. Health wisely photographed the process all the way through to the hatching, and posted the series of pics to the forum, resulting in an interesting journey with funny comments from the other forum members.

If you like William S Burroughs, you probably know that he would sometimes take a razorblade to pages of written text and physically make edits that resulted in new words and stream of consciousness concepts. If you don't like William S Burroughs, you probably just learned why. Website Language Is A Virus (name taken from a Burroughs quote) is an index of on-line word hack toys so that you may get your Beat on, without all the shooting up and shooting your wife and so on. If you like the David Bowie Outside album, David evidently used something much like this when channeling the lyrics... back when the the internet had more art than ads on it.

It always rings cheap and hollow to pay lip service to the victims of something so terrible from the safety of an ocean away, but we are truly saddened with today's events, and we extend genuine sympathy to those effected.

A concept somewhere between Channel 101 and The Real World, AlphaGirlsTV is an internet hub of amateur video in which young ladies with a digital camera an internet connection send in the sort of meandering balloon juice which normally a person has to endure having all kinds of sex first in order to hear. These videos are then edited into more or less "Real World confessional" style shorts, which unfold over the course of a season. There are five girls with their own shows at the moment, the one voted the most popular wins a trip to Hollywood.

Google Video

After many months of being able to search videos loaded online, and a couple of months of accepting video uploads, Google is now making those user-submitted videos public, and offering a in-browser video playback plugin based on the (open source!) VLC player with which to view them. John Battelle's Searchblog goes into useful detail:

"...this is a big deal for many institutions which do not have the ability to host and stream their own video, but would very much like to get their message out. In essence, Google is providing their infrastructure free of charge to let anyone upload video and have it be found."

Eric Freng

Cool roboanimals from artist Eric Freng's inner child, who acording to the 'about' page, needs a haircut and is named F. We don't know about all that, but the art on Eric's site is idiosyncratic: clockwork-like animals, some of which are line drawings and some are in Flash animation, all of which sort of look like plotted courses on a spaceship's map of the galaxy.
