Open Source television…. kind of an overused term these days, but basically the ACTLab Program at the University of Texas in Austin wants to make you part of The Organism, in the Marshall McLuhan sense of the term.

“We are using cutting edge software for peer-to-peer video streaming, developed by the Foundation for Decentralization Research, to help give people and small independent organizations a voice on the web. We use swarming technology combined with our unique playlist format to create an entirely new online medium for audio and video distribution.”

Here’s the selling point :

” On June 20th, you will be able to download our open source media player with integrated peer-to-peer streaming software and be part of the future of radio and television on the Internet.”

We’ll check back in next Monday (The 20th) to see how it flies. Seems like a neat idea.
